  2. Assignment 1

Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science?
Science is the study of physical life. Automatically, i think of chemicals bubbling in a lab.

Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?
I am learning how to conduct scientific labs and learn more about physics and the physics of life.

Part c: Why is this class important or is it?
The class will be the last science class i have in high school. the things i learn in this class will carry me through college.

Make sure you explain and defend your answers!

  4. Assignment 1

Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science?
The word science comes from the Latin "scientia," meaning knowledge.

How do we define science? According to Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of science is "knowledge attained through study or practice," or "knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, esp. as obtained and tested through scientific method [and] concerned with the physical world."

What does that really mean? Science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge. This system uses observation and experimentation to describe and explain natural phenomena. The term science also refers to the organized body of knowledge people have gained using that system. Less formally, the word science often describes any systematic field of study or the knowledge gained from it.

What is the purpose of science? Perhaps the most general description is that the purpose of science is to produce useful models of reality.

Most scientific investigations use some form of the scientific method. You can find out more about the scientific method here.

Science as defined above is sometimes called pure science to differentiate it from applied science, which is the application of research to human needs. Fields of science are commonly classified along two major lines:
    - Natural sciences, the study of the natural world, and
    - Social sciences, the systematic study of human behavior and society.

Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?
I want to willingly learn scientific things.

Part c: Why is this class important or is it?
Because we have to take a science class.

Make sure you explain and defend your answers!

  5. I believe science is the understanding of all the mysteries of the world no matter the difficulty or endless possibilities. Visually, science is library of answers just waiting to be discovered.
Being in this science class is preparing me for my future in engineering.
As i stated, my future is important to me and therefore this class is important.

Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?-It means to be a part of a community that is joined together in an effort to better understand the laws that control our world and prepare ourselves for college.

Part c: Why is this class important or is it?-This class is important because I am considering majoring in physics in college and it could influence my decision.

  7. Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science?
Science is the experimentation and observation of natural things around people everyday. When I think of science i picture atoms and stuff going on in a lab.

Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?
to better prepare yourself for future things dealing with nature and chemicals and scientific things.

Part c: Why is this class important or is it?
it is important because it is preparing me for college and my future, that is why it is important.

  8. Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science?
science is the study of any thing like biology study of life. i think of nature scenes
Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?
it means your in a science class....
Part c: Why is this class important or is it? its important to pass on information already learned generation to generation

  9. Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science?
Science is the study of the universe and how its individual parts are relative to one another.

Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class?
To be in science class is to be in a group setting in which discussions relating to the study of the universe are the subject matter. Also, celebrating Rachel Roessler Day is a key part of a successful science class.

Part c: Why is this class important or is it?
This class is important because it will both teach students and test their capability to think for themselves concerning the forces at work around them. This class allows (or should allow) students to observe universal forces without bias to work towards a better individual understanding of truth.

  11. Part 1: So you are enrolled into a science class. What is Science? What images do you have when you think of science? Obviously I am enrolled in the class. Science is the study/inspection/attempt to understand the natural world and the laws that control it. When I think of science, I think of glass beakers and the Roess Boss.
Part b: What does it mean to be in a science class? To attempt to the best of your ability to learn about the natural world from your teacher.
Part c: Why is this class important or is it? It is of moderate importance. I don't think I will ever apply it in everyday life, but it is somewhat interesting to learn how this junk works. Unless of course I become an astronaut, and then I will probably use some of it.
